Ah, gee - the weekend

There were more SCA folks at the library demo than there were patrons but it was still fun. All the library staff came out to try my 'food test' - after the first couple tried it, my afternoon was punctuated by hearing "where is the food test lady? I'm supposed to try the food test..." I tried to make it as interesting as possible. Balancing too much information against too little is always a dice roll. I had a good save with one bored little girl. She was probably about 7 years old and came to the table in that child-set of 'I MIGHT like this - or I might get completely turned off and never like history again". I could read it in her face. Luckily, her parents tried to help her so after a few items got sorted into "old World/New World" piles in s-l-o-w fashion, her parents got impatient and started coaching her. THAT brighten the whole experience - "Pssstttt.... your mom's right, keep that avocado there", "No, no - dad was right last time but - da-da! He's waaay off this time. Change sides, change sides!" That brought smiles and giggles to the whole family and it became one big game with even little brother and sister helping. I never knew that the summer I spent as a Carny (can you believe it! I got permission to work in a travelling carnival for the summer when I was 13. No, it wasn't legal. I don't believe that they cared in those days. Mom was just glad to have me out and away...) anyway, that summer working the gun-shooting booth helped. I swear, I was about ready to start the carny-chatter for a little while. It must have been the heat or something.

So - we do it again next weekend. I'll have to buy some new veggies. The heat wasn't nice to them.

I have a great weight-loss opportunity here. That tummy upset of last week is still with me. So far, I've figured out that I can't have anything with sugar in it (fruit juice - out!), no carbonation (Diet Pepsi! My sweet, my love... *sob*), and nothing spicy. No beef, either. Small amounts of cooked ham are doing okay, though, but mostly, life is a can of chicken noodle soup once or twice a day. I'm trying to look on the bright side of it. I wanted to do some fasting anyway. (Why does water make my tummy upset? Now that is *weird*) Arn is pushing for me to see a doc. I'm remembering that time long ago when we had kids with upset tummies and let them eat 'real food' sooner than they should have, earning yet another three or four days on clear fluids. It's my thought that the doc can wait until I give myself a dose of my own regime. Besides, I normally fast before Solstice. And besides that, losing a little weight is something I can easily do without endangering anything. I mean - come on!

The interesting effect is that I'm having some *fabulous* dreams. Wow. NONE of which will be recounted here! But there is one reader of this journal who should be smiling the smile of self-satisfaction usually reserved to Hollywood Idols.

Oh - speaking of Pennsic: Magnus, do you want me to bring your cooler to Pennsic or will you maybe be attending Stierbach's Baronial B'day? And Rowan, we need to talk about your mice... around the collar nose-to-nose, or all facing out?
