Busy? Oh yeah
The pot luck went well. Lots of people there, some of them new (I have got to remember to gather some loaner garb tomorrow for the event) and many who usually are too busy elsewhere to attend. Oh, and I've got to remember to gather feast gear and candles, too, since the feast will be by candle-light. Arn and Opi would appreciate that, I'm sure.
My heart is still sore over the things I mentioned in the previous post. I think I have my path clear and have already started down it... part of today was spent reassuring friends that my involvement on a local basis will not change. Silencing my voice on a Kingdom level will probably only result in relieved sighs so I know that it is only myself who will miss me being involved. But there comes a time when one has to acknowledge that the Game being played is not the one you signed up for - and I say that not just because of the statements of the One or Two, but because of the replies that followed. (And no, most of you who are in the SCA would not have been reading the conversation I am referring to, nor want to.)
But I will not accept "I sit the Throne so it's my way or the highway" - there is third option and that is to continue being a member of the Society while eschewing the Royal-centric portions of people's activities. Let those who enjoy them continue them without the interference of someone who believes in the rights of the individual and our responsibility to uphold such. I can continue to serve the people of the Kingdom I love without being around those who play the game in a manner I find untenable. Ultimately it's much less stressful.
Heck, I already belong to a Nation pan-Society that actually (gasp!) elects it's leaders. And that, too, is medievally-correct. Look at oh, the early Norse, for example, or the Irish.
I guess you can tell that I'm an early-period player. I prefer my leaders to be "first among equals" in my reenactment, just as I hold in high honor those who live their roles "here to serve and honor our people", as Kane, and Stephan, and Niobe did. And even as Anton did so strongly. But other folks don't get the bang out of that and want something different and, well, it's their Dream too.
