Update to "Kosher X-Mas"
As the link travels around the LJ community, a LJ-user named "arib" was kind enough to post a translation of the hebrew at the top of the webpage. Here's his commentary:
Free of charge, here's a rough translation of the Hebrew text at the top.
(As a bit of background, authors of religious texts will often ask famous rabbis to write a preface [called a haskamah- letter of approbation] to the volume serving as a recommendation. Like a cover blurb, but longer. See the article's appendix)
"I have been asked to write a haskamah on this pamphlet. I think that it is wonderful that they have written a treatice on these laws in English. Unfortunately, I have not yet been worthy to become familiar with this language, so I am unable to tell you if this pamphlet is bad or good.
"Nonetheless, I am writing this letter of blessing for this work because everybody knows that nobody reads haskamot anyway, especially when the book is written in English. So you can see, it doesn't matter whether I write this letter or not.
(the last paragraph starts to get a little more technical, I'd need my Hebrew-English dictionary. It seems to go along in the same vein)
