Not complaining...
Sep. 22nd, 2005 11:42 pmThis is not a complaint, just an observation. My head hurts. Now, the last couple of days have been nice, if quiet, and it was grand hanging out with Shilo and doing fibre-artsie type stuff, but - my head hurts. It's been hurting for two days now. This isn't really normal and I don't like it. It's just there, in the background, all the time and I'm starting to feel the weariness that constant pain brings. I'm feeling a little disgruntled about that. Like a torn hangnail haunting me two days later, I'm ready for it to stop interfering with my activities and my enthusiasm. (Update: I now have a sinus headache, as opposed to the "back of the crown" headache. Wonder if I'm catching a cold? I don't HAVE migraines! So why do noise and light bother me so much now? And why do I feel nauseated? Isn't that all migraine-stuff? Errrr.... Okay, *inhaling* , it will give me a better empathy for those who suffer from those knock-out headaches. lesson learned. Can it go away now?)
So - went to Activities Night on Wednesday, which was kinda good and kinda depressing - again, we had folks locked out of the building who didn't have any way to call us inside (Arn and I both carried our cell phones just in case), so again, baronial members spent time in a parking lot with loud airplanes flying overhead while others were inside missing them and assuming they didn't want to come. ARG. I really think we need to find a meeting place that doesn't rely on one of two guys to let everyone in/out and act as escorts. But then - I said that when the discussion came up about moving from our old meeting place and look what good that did. :) Always nice to be someone ignored. :) (That was irony, but only a little. It IS nice, sometimes, to not feel responsible! I'm being really careful not to say "I told you so" to Arni, who is one of the two guys and the only one who is available for the second meeting night.)
A good thing came out of the meeting. I think we're going to start a String Thing, meet someplace once a month to weave and sprang and naalbind and knit and all that good stuff. I'm exploring neutral-ground meeting places like the public library (just down from a good pub!) for us to do it at - someplace that doesn't need a specific person to be there every time to open it up, or have to close down should half the group be at Pennsic that month. You know how it goes.
Today Shilo and I played with thread. We had to (OH, the pain! the agony!) travel to two different stores to try to find replacement thread for her warping - the linen she had just snapped in two about very half-yard or so when it was under tension. That was frustrating. But we found something nice and she's got it all warped up now. I can't wait to see the design. A Birka knock-off. Heh. Viking stuff.
After Shilo left in the afternoon I laid down for a nap with the hope that the headache would go away. It didn't, but I slept well and woke up in time to watch some TV with Arni. The pain crested about the same time as the end of the second show we wanted to see, so I can't fault the timing at all! Now he's in bed and I'm up, trying not to wince every time I inhale. After this entry, I'm going to immerse myself in web-research and hopefully get so involved hunting down more stuff for the Manx Camp that I don't notice the pain. Like a child who's acting out, it can just sit in the corner until it learns to be more polite. Ey-yup.
