Today I was busy. Waiting. There was the waiting for a phone call that kept me at home all morning (never happened), then the waiting outside of the women's shelter to be allowed inside just to get a 'wish list' shopping list, then the waiting at the Social Security office to submit the paperwork for a new card (I haven't had one for about 30 years), then the double-waiting at the DMV to get my new license.
I'm very grateful that I brought a book. And that the 89-year-old man who broke into song whenever his internal radio got too loud wasn't also at the DMV after he left the SocSec office. he seemed a nice man but... offkey, partially deaf, and only a few phrases of whatever he was singing - it was distracting. Made me want to go sit by him and help him out with the rest of the lines. I mean, how often do you get a chance to sing "Swanee River" at a gov't office?
