stitchwhich: (Eyore the Grey)
I'm hiding from the kitchen. It's calling to me to get to work and I just don't want to. I know, I know, no matter how old the kitchen is, it still can't bake the pies by itself tonight.

I used the new bagless Hoover vacuum for the first time. Wow, does it fill up quickly. Of course, with a shedding pet in the house and the old vacuum broken for over a month, I suppose I should expect that. But wow. What a lot of cat fur. And why is it white on the rugs, furniture, and everywhere else but dingy brown in the filter-holder. Oh. yeah. The machine picks up *dirt* too. Well that's a bonus I didn't expect!

I got some typing done for my new hobby (helping out at the battered women's shelter, which isn't just for battered women and their families but "battered family" shelter sounds kinda strange). it was quick and easy typing and underlined for me again how difficult the job is for the folks there - no time to do the 'scut work' as it were, when there's so much other stuff they need to get done. I'm glad they are letting me help out with this and that. I spent 8 hours there yesterday as we packed and distributed the Thanksgiving Food Baskets. It was fun, if tiring. What gets donated is so odd, sometimes, and it was a real relief to have a lady come in who actually knew how to use some of the more unusual foodstuffs. I liked being able to send her home with not just a regular basket, but also a pile of ingredients that she enjoys eating and few others would be familiar with. Sometime next month will be the 'Christmas gift basket' period - they try to get enough donations in so that every parent (think - these are almost *all* working single parents) can have something nice to give to their children. And if we're lucky, a few things will come in so Santa Claus can give something to the Mom or Dad, too.

My car had to visit the shop. That's what happens when the 'check engine' light goes on, right? The repair costs shot any chance of me getting that Oseberg Textile book I've been lusting after... last time I'd saved up for it, Zack's car needed rescuing. I'm not sure that there's not a theme in there somewhere. But still, it was good that I got it in and I'm grateful that we were able to swing the repairs. And now that vague annoying 'womp, womp, womp' noise is gone, too. Three vacuum seals, a set of O-rings, a PVC something or other, two ball-joints, two repacked ball bearings, an oil change and a tire rotation and balancing. Whew! But baby, does he move so much better! And oddly, the brakes seem to be 'tighter' too. I have decided that things started going bad because I neglected to name my car. So if you see me writing about "Marduk", that would be him. The strong, powerful, determined... um, entity, that he is.

Saw the doc yesterday morning. Looks like the little biopsy site took offense at being shaved and started a revolution in infection. I can't wait for the report to get back so we'll know what it is. This 'try this, try that' treatment regime is not so effective. I'm on antibiotics and cleaning/repacking the abscess (icky, eh?) three times a day. And scowling at it. If'n I'd known it was going to be so touchy, I would have thrown it a party or something first, to soften it up!

Aw, heck. my duty-button has popped. I'd better go get started in the kitchen. Ya think that if I explain to the stove and counter that the doc says I'm supposed to keep my leg elevated and that means 'stay in bed with a book and bon-bons', they might surprise me by making dinner for tomorrow? Doing the dishes? Anything?

I need more magic.
