By the time most folks read this on Sunday (or Monday, or Tuesday...) my last responsibility as an Autocrat of an event will be done. I'm road-tripping through the snow and ice particle mix to travel to Hampton Roads and deliver "lost" items to the folks who live up there. And then I'm done, done, done. I said "never again" and am already considering another event. What I'd really like to do is cook again at Barnacled Bullfrog but we don't have an autocrat (and if we did have a bid, what'sto say I'd be on it as Cook?).

Inventory of the Baronial storage unit went well and quickly. Possibly because so much stuff is not in there. That's worrying but not my job so I'm trying to keep my fingers in my ears and not interfere with those folks whose jobs it are. Is. Man, that doesn't scan right.

Vikes-NA is all up to date with memberships again (Im the membership secretary). I had to go out and get myself my very own bank account in order to help folks with their Paypal payments. That was weird. And now I have someplace other than my cookie jar to hide money for buying Arni's birthday presents. Woot! Side benefit!

I'm knitting a scarf for my youngest. At the rate I'm going, it might be spring before he gets it. Man, you'd think that size 2 knitting needles would be *big* but my progress is making them look awfully small. Or maybe that's because the scarf is as wide as a toddler's sweater. But it's going to be warm and comfy so it's worth it. He's worth it.

In SCA projects, I'm in 'blah'. I can't finish my outstanding ones that I am looking forward to because I'm stuck trying to create a pattern (one *lovely* reproduction pillow for a cool sweet knitter who's reading this - no, I haven't forgotten) and the other a linen tunic with neat celtic-patterned animals around the collar (no, not 'period', just fun). I wish I was a better artist. I'm nearly done with CC's Pennsic gowns and can see the postal date looming on those (when I get to mail them to her). I'd like to do some embroidery for Arn but the person who has what I'd be working on hasn't given it to me and now I don't want to nag him - I don't even know if that's still in the works and feel a little, um, odd, about asking. If it's not, it's no big deal. It was mainly ceremonial. I've been working on my two knitting/embroidering projects and day-dreaming about the next "real" thing I'm going to do when they are done. A new gown for me, I think, that is long enough that I can wear a short hangerroc over it rather than a floor-length one. Yeah, that'd be nice.

And I think I'd like to make a G-63 for Arn and maybe a Turkish tunic or two for him, too, since his pants and undergowns already would work for that. Oh! And maybe a new pair of pants just so I could make one of those embroidered drawstrings for the waistband. MAN, would that be kicking!

Went to Tir-Y-Don's fighter's practise and dropped off all the Lost and Found that belongs to their folks, then slid into Trader Joe's for some Blarney Castle cheese. Yum. Found that it was cheaper than I expected so I bought three little rounds. Which is good, because it is apparently seasonal. Scored some sparkling apple cider and cranberry juices for the next Event. It was snowing/ice dropping by the time we headed back to VaBeach.

Had a fun conversation in the truck on the way back about Peerages and people's perceptions of what to expect from a Peer - I quoted Tibor's "PLQs (Peerage Level Qualities) are the stick that non-peers try to beat us with" which made Arni laugh. Then we talked about what we use to 'measure' our own activity levels and our 'peer-ness' (sic) and the contrast between that and what folks want us to do, which lead to a new quote-to-be, "We are not Mistress Gerber and Master Pampers". It does seem sometimes like folks expect us to spoon-feed and butt-wipe (sorry about that)them rather than giving them the tools to achieve their own level of play/participation/knowledge. And for the most part, it's a joy to give the helping hand but when that hand is grabbed, yanked, and judged to be 'too little', well - it's time for a reality check and not on our side of the table.

But then, that's true in any social club, anywhere. What's that saying? "In any group, 15% of the members will do over 80% of the work." Even in the SCA. And if it weren't so, what would I have to do with myself at events? I'd be bored out of my mind.

Livia's gonna be a Pelican. I'm so thrilled... it is so well deserved. I'll bet Tacitus is fairly dancing with glee.

This post isn't random enough. Did I mention that I got my two sons addicted to Chuzzle? Heh. And I now know what happens when you get all the charms to turn rainbow colors.

Oh - and the Walmarts in my area have indeed closed down their fabric departments. *sigh*

YOu know what happens when you go shopping during the final playoff games? Cashiers who are fighting with other cashiers about the game will make mistakes at the check-out. And if there are two cashiers (male) who are rooting for two different teams to the point that they anger other customers AND make those mistakes, while there is only one manager to deal straighten it out, then those of us honest folks who want to report that they were under-charged get told, "If we don't owe you money, thank you for your honesty and shopping at Target, you can go." Woot! Three new drawer units for the craft room for the price of two. And that was the on-sale price, at that. I'll bet they wouldn't have said that if those were the California Closet units.

Still - it's been a good day.
