Overly finicky
Mar. 21st, 2007 12:17 pmSo I sewed a new hood this weekend as I needed a project to do for the demo. And don't you know it, the judges asked me what I was doing and there I was, caught using black linen as a lining for a Hedeby-based hood. Opps. I had been prepared, however, and talked about how fleeting the color was, how difficult it was to get that dark, and how the 'commissioner of the hood' was a well-to-do lady who wanted to show off her wealth by wearing such a rare fabric color but was wise enough to use it as a lining so it wouldn't risk sun fading. And they laughed, and said, "Huh! Things never change, do they?" since they were both Interpreters from the Jamestown Settlement.
And now I'm hoist by my own picard. Because *now* I'm going to have to go buy some good silk trim (there were two bands edging the Hedeby hood) to decorate my 'rich lady's hood' because my non-tablet woven trim just isn't good enough for that black lining.
Let that be a lesson for you, fabric-hoarders everywhere. If you are thinking of curing yourself of hoarding fabric, remember my last-minute 'need a demo item' rush and make sure that you keep something _other_ than an inappropriately-colored fabric in your horde. "Using it all up until it stores small" really means "having only the stuff you don't know what to do with" left in the boxes. (Sitting side-by-side with the stuff you DO know what to do with and aren't willing to risk not having enough of come cutting time.)
*Sigh*
I'm going to have to look up Herveus and Megan and see if I can even *dream* of affording tablet-woven stuff.
