... but I'm not. I like the term 'Troll' for whoever acts as the registrar/gatekeeper/event attendance processor for an SCA event. It is perhaps the only SCA-jargon word that I really don't want to give up with the possible exception of "Autocrat". Yeah, "Event Steward" works too but there is no good reason to replace one with the other - neither are medieval designations and both could have easily developed into dialectical usage within any English-speaking land. So I'm not convinced that there is a superiority in using "Event Steward" over "Autocrat" except that one is officious and the other mildly humorous.

"Troll", now, well... I know. But I'm too fond of the word and the warm memories it evokes to want to give it up. I suspect it will be one of the things that marks me as an SCA-dinosaur.

Eh.

Since I decided to 'go against the tide' in my last post, why not do it again?

I don't like Mother's Day. If there were ever a day set aside to maximise guilt and low-self esteem, this would be the one. In a perfect world, every day would be Mother's Day just like it would be Father's Day and Son's Day and Daughter's Day. And in a loving family, it mostly is. But as an iconic day of 'celebrating your mother'... it sucks.

I love Christmas (Giftmas) and I'm not even of that faith. I love birthdays. I love even telling people how old I am. But can I opt of of Mother's Day? Please?
