Gotta love the lazy
Aug. 28th, 2007 10:06 pmSo today I went back to Dick's Sporting Goods to return the cot I bought exactly one week ago. Of course they tell me they can only give me in-house credit. And I smile at the desk clerk who's been on the phone with his manager for 5 whole minutes trying to get an over-ride so he can give me a refund and say, "I'd like to talk to the manager face-to-face, please. There is no reason you should be stuck in the middle of this conversation when I explain to him about the ultimate cost of a woman with a re-built spine having one of their Store Brand cots collapse under her when she weighs less than the rated weight..."
He smiled and thanked me for keeping him out of it, then called his manager back. Who, as I could already tell, was too lazy to leave his chair and come talk to an angry customer - or even talk with her over the phone. So he authorized the cash refund.
Then I went to WalMart and bought an air mattress. One of those 20" tall ones which is rated for 650 pounds and is extraordinarily heavy thanks to its sturdy vinyl construction. I won't have to worry about it collapsing and dropping me onto the ground or how it will react to a hill or an uneven surface and with my refund, it cost me $25. Well worth the glint in my eye and the steel in my voice when I asked to talk to a manager...
