Apr. 21st, 2008 12:38 pmI'm still trying to switch gears from the weekend to "high speed you've got work to do". I think I can hear the rust in my brain flaking off as the gears slowly turn.
I had a grand time this weekend. Travelled with Olwyn & her Mary so had good conversation there and back again, even in the parts where we overshot our exit and took a scenic look at the area around Charlottesville (it would have been fine if I hadn't been determined to introduce Olwyn to the wonders of "Foods of All Nations" in C'ville).
The lodge and cabin that our Irgun (a part of the Great Dark Horde, for those of you confused) rented for the weekend was lovely and full of everything you'd need to set up happy vacationing. Even a fridge that made ice - and a washer and dryer which we didn't use although after seeing the condition of the children's clothes, we probably should have. We all stayed up to see the dawn each day, talking through the night with the faces changing as some folks retired to sleep and others got up to use the facilities and then got sucked into a conversation. A couple of folks brought their dogs so we had warm floppy puppy heads on our feet off and on.
It was a grand weekend and we all agreed we need to do it again. Talk about a family retreat! Good food, good conversation, laughter - it wasn't until I got home that I thought how rare it is in our everyday lives that over 25 strong-personality people could spend the weekend together and there would be no drama. The only spikes to 'generally chilling out' were the laugh ones.
