I was mean to my neighbor last night. He is a single guy, divorced (I think) with a daughter who visits (I think - there's a little girl sometimes around the house) with a kicking stereo & light system set up in his garage. Like Bob, the man who lived there before, he opens his garage door and uses that and the front of his driveway as a porch* and holds parties there. A week ago he made me grin - it was a toga party with some of the saddest looking togas I'd ever seen.

Last night, at three o'clock in the morning, I walked over and asked him if he would turn his bass down... it made me feel bad. Old. When I've done that once or twice in the past it was because my kids were disturbed and that didn't make me feel old, just grumpy on their behalf... but this time, it was me - the sound was pounding through our house, especially the street-facing bedroom walls and it was driving me crazy - like sitting next to a boomBOOMboom car at the stoplight. And I was sleepy. (Not that I actually managed to hit the rack until after 4:30, but I thought I was gonna.)

But still - old and mean, that's me. :(

*Why do people do that? I never saw that back home. Is that an "Eastern/Southern" thing?
