Gettin' Saucy!
Nov. 10th, 2008 09:37 pmI just spent an enjoyable evening at Sophia's house (she being
mmcnealy) with her and Elizabetta. We were saucy!
No, really.
Stockpiled for the upcoming Marinus Baronial Birthday feast is one pepper sauce, one cinnamon sauce and one (incredible) pomegranate sauce. We read recipes, wrinkled our brows, and then started playing with spices. What else can you do when the recipe reads something like, "...and put it to boil with a large amount of spices"? So we played. I'm sure that folks in the middle ages knew what the flavor was supposed to be for whatever-it-was (for example, "pepper sauce") so they didn't need to spell it out. We, however, don't have a clue what it was supposed to taste like.
Which meant that a lot of time was spent saying, "Hmmmm.... you know, it needs something. How about ___________?" followed by, "MMmmmmMMMM. This would be so good on *insert various foodstuffs, mostly meats*. Mmmmm. Yeah. Mmmmm."
I am quite happy with our sauciness. Yes, I am. With the mustard I already had laid aside, that will be two savory and two sweet sauces. Yay!
