Approximately 95% of the people in my polling station while I was there would not have been allowed to vote 100 years ago - women, non-whites - no voting for them! In many places around the world today many of us would have been excluded from the polls or forced to vote as someone else dictated.

Even as the results roll in and my hope lessens for an effective government, I can be proud and comforted that I am an American.

[edit] I just read this exchange:
"Remember typewriters?"
"Yes! They were cool keyboards with built-in printers!"
