We went to Tir-Y-Don's Baronial Birthday and Investiture event yesterday. It was a 'fine Scottish day', meaning somewhat chill and rainy. We bugged out in the afternoon after a particularily spectacular band of rain poured in and the temperature dropped low enough to see one's breath. I wasn't cold, per se, but my gut was shivering. It was exhaustion. I guess I'm not a kid anymore. I'd stayed up until 3:30 last night baking chocolate chip cookies (6 dozen) to use as bribes gifts to Tir-Y-Don in our effort to gain them as allies in this October's War of the Wings. Snagged three hours of sleep and then headed, groggy and heavy-eyed, to the event site. I enjoyed seeing everyone but just didn't have any energy and as the morning turned into afternoon, I started to get shaky. This is the second time I can remember having that sort of thing happen and each time, it was following a late night. So habits are just going to have to change.

Darn it. I'm used to doing that! (And I wonder if they liked the cookies. I wasn't there when they were presented along with other stuff donated by Marinus folks.)

I've been working on a set of hoods for the Austlandr group. One got finished and handed over last week (where I swear Sunday was colder than yesterday was and I wasn't shivering then!) and the other is at the stage where I can begin to put the edging on it. I stab-stitched all around the hood opening yesterday and sewed the bottom edge together. I can start the decoration band today and get that sucker done maybe by tonight. I brought home a tunic owned by the leader of the group and am going to use it as a pattern to make him a new one out of linen, and to embroider on it - he deserves at least one tunic with something fancy on it. He's got one with a bit of store-produced trim, and that's it.

Today promises to be fun as we head to Aradd & Izzy's house to play in the kitchen & hang out in the sewing area (or whereever they have designated the sewing is going to happen.) If we're home early enough we'll finish up with a couple of hours of cards... some of us go into withdrawal if we don't play for two weeks.

My kidneys are fine. The blood test last month that pegged me at stage 3 kidney disease was a result of the mixing of two prescriptions that were contraindicated for each other. The doctor was blase about them testing out so badly a month ago but I was totally freaked and really was heading down the path of giving up. A month of thinking that the slide towards death was inexorable... and then came last week's test and all is fine. In fact, better than fine, as it also showed that I am controlling the diabetes very well, thank you, so that is good.

I've gained weight, though, and am grumpy about it. You wouldn't think that if a person was eating in the range of 1350-1550 calories a day that they'd be gaining weight. But I've gained 6 pounds since phasing out the diuretics and trading in some other kind of medication for the blood pressure. Yeah, I know it's just water and all that - but it's still disheartening!
