While I was having my CT scan this morning, I got a horrible cramp in my leg and ended up with tears leaking into my ears (but I stayed still! So there!). The tech noticed the tears when she came to remove my IV and asked me about it. So I explained about the "drug I take to control the cancer has that as a side effect" and she expressed amazement, then asked me if all cancer drugs did that. Of course I didn't know if they did or not, and said so, but told her it was a side effect for folks with my kind of cancer and for certain forms of lukemia. And she froze.

"Lukemia? My father has that and he kept telling me that his back hurts, or sometimes other areas..."
"Well, the drug I take is Gleev-"
"Gleevix!"
"-ec. Yes, Gleevec."
"The really expensive stuff?"
"About $400 a pill, yeah."
"Oh my goodness! My dad does take that! I didn't know it could do that! He takes flexeral everyday but I didn't know why..."
"You should ask your father if you can read the drug warning label on his prescription bag, or go online and read the information blurb."
"I'm going to! He never tells us what's going on with his treatment, so I didn't know about the side effects. Thank you!"

So lookit that. I got to help someone by crying.
