Jul. 2nd, 2013 01:05 amYa'know, sometimes you just have to assess a situation and ask yourself the question, "exactly how much frustration am I willing to take on?"
If it wasn't so late I'd go outside and kick rocks. Luckily, I know the mood will pass as I find other things to occupy my mind.
Like writing about swinging past Las Vegas on my way to Known World Herald's & Scribes Symposium. (Tickets were just as cheap routing via Norfolk-> Vegas-> San Antonio on Friday as they were breaking it up to two trips spread over the week, so I got to crash at Zack & Mylissa's house and get some rest before continuing, which rocked. So did the three days of my 'layover', which term the Southwest Airlines ticket assistant didn't recognise when I called her looking for help in scheduling my flight once I saw that straight-through Friday tickets were no longer available in the 'cheap seats'. My 'layover' was about $70 less expensive than it would have cost to book the business class tickets being offered. Lesson learned. Next time, book MUCH earlier! I thought I was being smart trying to get the advance in the same quarter as the final accounting would be in. Thought I was helping make the Exchequer's life easier. I don't know if it does or not, actually, but I don't think I'll try that again unless it really is a big help.)
I enjoyed my time with Zack and Mylissa. Met her brother and his family, played a D&d3.5 game on the night I arrived (kicked butt and was the last one standing after a game of 'us against them' when the DM didn't show up for their normal campaign.) Met her mom & step-dad (nice folks), the sweet dog that adopted Mylissa (Link) and watched Man of Steel at a theatre featuring electronically controlled recliners for each seat as well has beer & cider on tap. We ate at some restaurant with HUGE foods - that was fun. Zack's pancake was about the size of an SCA feast's serving platter. And they took me to see "Ka" on Wednesday, just days before that unfortunate performer lost her life. I try to cling to the memory of her joyously doing what she loved rather than dwelling on the tragedy of her loss.
The Symposium was good. Solid. I learned a lot. And got to meet people I had only known online, as well as spend a wonderful hour with Niobe. I should write about that - she was glowing and being around her was like being immersed in a pool of serenity. I admire her so much.
Sunday's flight didn't get off so well, but I did get to cross the Gulf of Mexico, which was fun to watch through the plane's tiny window. And Orlando's airport offered Pepsi products as well as Coke ones. Thank goodness! And then there was the 'Let me witness to you the Glory of Christ" seatmate, which might be interesting to write about.
But first, I believe I shall go scrounge up something to munch on. And perhaps start the new Darkover book I bought for my Nook.
Oh - and my new phone's cover arrived in the mail. I like it. This is the one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/ZTE-Flash-N9500-Case-Accessory/dp/B00COTQ8IS/ref=pd_sim_sbs_cps_22 . I also found a free 'word search' game app, which dangerously reduces my phone's charge as I play it all too often. Between that and a 'guess the color' game (http://www.gamesforthebrain.com/game/guesscolors/), that phone got a workout while I was inflight!
