stitchwhich: (Lego Viking Woman)
I learned a few things over the weekend. One was 'Never play Evil IF with that specific person". Boy, was that a lesson in don't-kill-them-because-they-are-your-friend. Lesson learned.

Hand sewing with (yuk!) crochet thread on wool fabric is sure to make my tendonitis flair in a majorly painful way. I accept the pain as the price I pay for doing something so horrible. But the owner of the wool is happy and inspired, and that makes it worth it. She is now in possession of the rest of the thread so she can add stitching to the hem of the garment. And I shall go back to using 'period fibers on period projects'. Whew.

I'd forgotten how much fun it is to make gifts for the Queen's largesse basket. We made 14 sets of 12 invitations to dine at High Table, neatly bundled with ribbon. Each invitation is small, about the size of business card folded in half, with a stenciled/stamped decoration on the front that leaves enough room to write the name of the invitee, and a printed "Please honor us with your company at High Table" on the inside (or rather, a few random sentences of that sort, so they won't all match.) Most of our High Tables seat eight, but some seat 12, so even with the larger ones there should be two extra cards per bundle to cover for declines or errors. And we purposely didn't capitalize the pronouns so the Royals can give sets of the invitations to territorial Baron & Baronesses as gifts. It's not a normal giftie, and it is a tad different, but I'm hoping it will add to the Royal's/B&B's fun and at the same time ease one of the stresses of an event day. I hated the just-before-Court scramble to figure out how many seats I had and who was onboard/who to invite. This way they can send a runner with the invitations, use them as seat markers, and ultimately they could serve as a memento for the honorees.

Television shows that I am positive I will despise may well be entertaining - two weeks of "Are you kidding me?!" have now toned down to "I'm somewhat intrigued, I'll give it a chance." T.V. Huh. I am thankful that one series we once watched and were getting tired of is now slated for discontinuance. That is a relief.

My energy levels are rising. Even though I've been sleeping more and more this last month. I stood at the stove and made supper this evening without needing to sit down periodically. It was about half an hour of cooking but that is more than I could do before without numbness and as it turned out, I wasn't numb at the end, just tired of standing. I have to build up my muscles again from noodle-soft but still I celebrated.

Next week a few of us are getting together to try my new indoor smoker. We've each grabbed one recipe to try - I am going to attempt 'smoked tomato ketchup', which is in no way sweet or remotely like commercial types. Another friend grabbed the 'smoked Allium paste', which was going to be my first pick. Mmmmmm... I predict that will become a standard to have on hand for sideboards during our summer event weekends.

[EDIT: Sadly, I have also learned that chips and picante sauce, even the 'mild' variety, are not a good midnight snack.]
