Jan. 9th, 2018 04:21 pmYesterday was a day of good news. It turned out that there had been a misunderstanding about bringing food and beverages into the hotel - they are allowed in public areas. They just aren't allowed in the restaurants, which I am a little confused about why that was even mentioned during the autocrat's conversation. Personal foods & beverages are never allowed in restaurants anywhere anyway, barring the occasional birthday cake. So all systems are go.
And my husband offered me one of his dels 'as a back up" so my concerns about rushing the sewing this week are now relieved. I'm still going to sew, of course, but if it goes sideways I can take the time to get it right.
My son's girlfriend is not flying back to South Africa after all, but we will be making the trip to the embassy at some point so she can get her paperwork back in order. Only now it is not imperative. She texted me last night just after 8pm asking if I was free. She was suffering from a bad case of cabin fever and I suspect also needed to spend some time with someone other than her guy's roommate. I picked her up and we headed to a local restaurant for some girl time and calorie indulgences... she had a French silk pie and I had a blackberry milkshake. We talked there for about three hours. The place was empty since our roads are still rather dangerous to drive on, but we had no trouble getting there. It is just bumpy on all the roads other than the main north/south and east/west Blvds. If you were ever a child being dragged over a pasture while seated inside of a box, it was that sort of bumpy. There is a challenge in staying within one's lane. I ended up returning her to the apartment around 2:45 - we had wandered the 24-hour Wal-Mart and then dropped in on my son at his workplace. It was quite agreeable. She told me about her family and part of the story of her childhood so I can understand her much better now.
I'm taking a break before starting my cutting. It is going to be hard to be working at the kitchen table with the smell of smoked ham in the air. I'm baking one for dinner and the scent is everywhere, but in the kitchen it is almost as strong as it would be if I was in the pan, I swear. That is going to put a smile on Bossman's face when he returns from work.
I'm reading a novel by Mercedes Lacky and James Mallory. I've read seven others by them, all set in the same fantasy world but this one is almost drudgery to read. I am slogging through it and have stopped to read a quick (120-230 page) other book four - no five - times so far. I don't think I am even halfway through this novel. It is part of a trilogy, of course, and is the middle book so I will finish it. It puzzling why it is so difficult to get into compared to the other novels.
