Lauren (Lady Elizabeta, who hasn't been dragging into the LJ scene yet) came over on Saturday and Sunday so we could draft a pattern for 12th century garb for her and get started on it. Poor lady, I am not the best teacher when I'm feeling under the weather but she persevered and is quite close to having her undergown done. This is her first experience with flat-fell seams, french seams, and underarm gussets... [livejournal.com profile] mmcnealy taught her how to sew just this year, I think it was, so she's doing right well moving from her chosen time period/culture to this new territory.

I'm all achey and sore but with only minor sniffles. Means that hot beverages have suddenly become quite desirable again. Hopefully I'll finish that little tub of instant lemonade (mmmmm hot lemonade) before the year is out so it won't be taunting me when I go back to the low-carb life.

In spite of physical ickiness, Lauren's enthusiam propelled me into "sewing mode" and I've managed to repair all of Arni's ripped/too short/outmoded garb, made a new tunic to donate to Gold Key and have been busily stitching up the 'saved but not used' Yule fabrics into little bags for 'gift wrapping'. That's been fun. Stretching the creative-muscles is something I desperately needed. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them all. I think I bought lots of fabric believing that I'd make the bags as gifts for friends but now, a year later, the idea seems kinda hokey.

And oh.... this week's installment of "Saltation" is g-o-o-d...
