Modern houses in my area were not designed for extreme temperatures. I'm up in the middle of the night and since my desk is against an outside wall I've had to wrap my legs in a big oversized blanket my mother made - because the 16 degrees (f) outside is positively radiating through the wall, even with two layers of insulation on it! And we didn't get more than a cheap-cookie dusting of snow. Darn it.
Brrrr.... this is why I should be huddled in our nice warm waterbed re-reading "The Rowan" instead of trying to catch up on long-ignored emails*.
*I started slacking off on reading eLists when the depression hit, which was in December. I am now wading through over 500 messages just on the Norsefolk list. I can't even face the SCA-Cook's list! Not yet anyway. Thank goodness most of it is "read, delete, read, delete".
