We went to Kingdom 12thNight this weekend. I probably shouldn’t have gone – I knew I was depressed and distracted by my medical stuff and my mind just seems empty, lately, of even simple processes. But still, friends were going to be there, and I needed to do something to feel useful. So I volunteered to run a ‘colouring table’, as it were, for the herald’s consult area. You know, bring the fabulous “Pennsic traceable art” books, some blanks, some drawing tools and crayolas, and sit in the back making the coloured copies of device and badge submissions that other heralds would need.

It didn’t quite work out that way. On one hand, I got to spend more time with Marie and Istvan than I would have (I think) in the ordinary manner but on the other, well – there’s nothing quite as vexing as being at the bottom of one’s game while hanging out with those whose good opinion you’d like to have. Urg. I have lots of mental notes about 'what to do/not do for a consult table' too.

The trip itself was fine. We travelled down with Bossman’s protégé #2 (who is also one of our Hordebrothers) and got a great room for such an astonishing price ($55 for a double-bed room with all the amenities, including a full breakfast in the morning) that our passenger got his own room so all of us had big ole beds of our own to stretch out on. That was nice. And in the morning - ummm… orange juice and sausage gravy on fresh biscuits. That beats toast, muffins, and bagels any day! There was french toast and waffles and such but you can’t beat biscuits and gravy for ‘stick to your ribs’ before a long event. Or I should say, ‘a long event where I expect we’ll forget to eat’. Bossman loaded up on oatmeal, so he was doing pretty good too.

The event was fun, we saw lots of friends and got lots of hugs and oh! There was one entry in the A&S that Bossman grabbed me to see – a box that had been decorated with woodburned work and the documentation was fabulous! I mean – wow, I hadn’t seen so many examples and cites for the art before and I wish I had. (I do a little woodburning work myself.) I didn’t have time to read her documentation but I left her a note asking her to contact me. I sure hope she does.

The trip back was uneventful. A little windy, but we missed any snow or sleet so that was grand. Got home and in bed before 2am, up at a decent hour this morning and now to do some sewing with my apprentigee and chatter in a warm kitchen while we work. It will be a good day.
