This year I'm doing something different for my Christmas Cards - I'm going to use this stamp

rather than the happy ones I normally use. That's because it is so little known or used (the amount above postage cost is a direct donation to the National Domestic Violence Center) that the post office is getting rid of it next month. It took years of lobbying to get it, 3 years of waiting after it was approved before it was finally printed, and less than 4 years for the USPS to decide that it was too depressing to carry (or at least, that's what one postal worker told a local woman when she went in to buy a sheet of them - "Don't get those! They're depressing!" He didn't know that he was talking to the author of the request for its development). So this year, I'm going to share joy with my friends while sending support to those who are going to be running for their lives.
I'm feeling a little fierce about it all. Today was the second day of training for volunteers and Interns for one of our local shelters (the Samaritan House) and it was hard to hear about the lack of choices that a Domestic Violence victim has - the Bush administration has certainly eviscerated most of the programs for that. I guess because battered women and children really just don't have a lot of power or money to support him, so why should he support them, eh?
Don't mind me. I'm just a little frustrated right now.
