It was a grand day. I set dinner at 6pm so there was no 'get up in the wee hours and be coherent' imperative. As is typical lately, I ended up getting up after only a couple of hours anyway, but spent the time drifting from this to that and somewhere in there got two pumpkin pies baked and the house cleaned. Then took a nap before starting the (22 pound) turkey. Folks started arriving around 4:30 - all beloved, so it was very nice, very nice indeed. Good conversation, easy cooking (it's always easy in a kitchen when Barb/Felicia is around) and more than enough Savory Toasted Cheese to cover the asperagus. I learned how to make asperagus in the microwave - wow, is that simple. No more canned stuff for me!

Shawn called his brother in Vegas and caught him just before showtime so we all got to talk to him. I didn't know his schedule and thought he'd call us. Boy, am I glad Shawn was so much better in tune than I was! He put his razor-phone on 'speaker mode' and we all gave Zack a taste of kitchen hub-bub for a few minutes. I miss that boy. Man. Son.

We cut the menu down from last year and no one went away hungry so I guess that was a safe risk. Leftovers went home with a few folks but most of them stayed here - not much, besides turkey and fruit salad, both of which are our favorite leftovers. It was so grand to spend time in the kitchen with Barb. We just cooked and chattered and danced around each other. You know how it is when someone's cooking style matches your own so when you need milk, they're already handing it to them and when they need to wash up their work area, you just happen to have the cloth right there for them? And no bumping into each other? That's what it's like to work with Barb. I love that.

Arn spent the time at his computer desk salvaging a hard drive from the old computer. I can't wait to see what of my stuff he found. I know the Autocrat's handbook made it through and so did some of my research stuff, although I might die of embarrassment if any of my fiction comes to light.

So - I cooked, napped, ate, learned a new recipe, cleaned up (before dinner - Opi and Shawn did it after dinner) and generally had a nice relaxed and comfortable day with folks I love. And no, I didn't ever spend time elevating my leg... but I did get a 'forgot to pay you' surprise from Barb for some garb I made her and it's now sitting securely in a little box as my nest-egg for that Oseburg Textile book. Man, I am soooooo looking forward to seeing that! I wish someone in the area had a copy so I could slobber over it for a little while. (I wouldn't get it wet, really.)

Good day. Good evening. I'm going to bed a contented woman.
