Last night we invited folks to our house for a game of One Verse. That is one of those "everyone sit in a circle" things where you have to do something when your turn comes - in this case, sing either a verse or a chorus of a song. The song will then be disqualified from the game after you perform it. There are various joys involved, the best being to sing something your friends had forgotten and are now thrilled to re-hear and then there's the competition joys; singing a verse that everyone loves because it leads into a rousing chorus, only to watch their faces as they realise they can't sing the chorus, or singing something that is so well-known, such an ear-worm that it knocks their prepared song out of their heads, or singing something that you just know they are planning on singing (that happens usually by accident, really, when someone else's choice brings a particular song to mind). And it's fun to get on rolls of themes. For instance, Arn sang something that started with a long drawn-out "ohhhhh" so Opi followed with another song that did the same. Of course, at that point those of us waiting for our turn were thinking of all sorts of ones that do that and I, believing that I was gonna one-up, decided to do the Banana Boat Song because of the "Day-Oh" in it. But Curt, who goes before me, did it first. The fink. So I sang the "deo Gracias Anglia" version of it. So there.

All of this is done while holding cold drinks in one's hand. Cries of "drink, drink" seemed to be the order of the day whenever someone forgot the words in the middle of their piece or were staring off into the air for too long when it was their turn.

Much laughter and giggling was had by all. And there are many bottles in our recycling bin today. (Which reminds me, I need to buy more Granny Smith Cider. I introduced one guest to the joys of blended Granny Smith and Amber and we both drank a lot of each other's beverage. Heh.)

Now I'm going to go visit a friend's mom in the hospital. Mostly to be with that friend after the consult with the doctors. We already know the ending, we just need to learn how many chapters there will be until it.
