Decisions, decisions...

While working on my new Viking-era coat, I realised as I was finishing up the lining on the third gore that I had sewn the bias side (the short side of the isosceles triangle) to the sides of the coat instead of attaching the more normally used long gore-sides, resulting in gores that will now only reach as high as mid-thigh rather than to my waist. Short of just living with my error, there are only three fixes for this:

1 - Give the completed coat away to someone as fat as me with legs six inches shorter.
2 - Tear all the sewing out. (NOT a chance!)
3 - Sew an additional, longer gore on each side so the shorter ones will frame it and appear to be a vain woman's attempt at conspicuous consumption of fabric. This would mean all that extra embroidering and lining and be far more eye-catching than I meant to make the thing.

le sigh

I'm kinda leaning towards number three. And laughing at myself because I had seriously considered not adding any gores to it at all since it was quite wide enough on its own - but my indignation about have already cut and quilted the gores to their lining forced me to use them against friend's advice - and now look at where I'm at. It is a good thing that I'd made an additional trip to the Hook & I to get a bit more embroidery wool. I'm going to need it to complete the additional seams.

Double-sigh. But hey, it's going to be a nice heavy full coat, yes? And it surely will do duty as an additional blanket on my camp bed. Assuming the bed can handle the weight of the thing.

Oh - and maybe I'd better not lose weight and grow too small for it - 'cause I am not doing this again anytime soon! It's already a bit large for me.
