Well! I got a lot done today! Caught up on *some* of my overdue email then John called and wanted to know if I was free later to help him sew garb. I asked for a couple of hours, got them, and cleaned a bit then did a quick commissary run for groceries. He was here and chatting with Arni when I got back. 8 hours, two store runs, and some fancy scissors-work later, he has one tunic completely sewn, one pair of pants cut out (and his own pattern to take home), five tunics cut out, two of them 'correct to period', and enough new fabric to cut 4 more pairs of pants and three more tunics. I'd say the man is going to be set for his vacation. I found some fabric that would be grand for 'give away' tunics and bought enough to make two. John very kindly bought one more length so I can make three. All I have to do is get with it!

I finished my third little knit washcloth. A new pair was needed for my own Pennsic packing, made of soft cotton, knitted in stockinette with a border of 'standard knit' all around. The first (trial) piece is currently doing duty as a kitchen wash cloth since I knitted it strictly in garter stitch, which gave me a chance to check for softness and 'scrubability'. It passed. In fact, I liked it well enough that I bought extra cotton to make some for the house, too. Or rather, for the shower where I bathe - I don't think Arni would care one way or the other so I can be lazy about making enough for the linen closet. Nonetheless, I have one extra skein for making him his own camp wash cloth, just in case.

After John's call, there were more, mostly for Arni. There's been no new word about my mother-in-law. Tomorrow is the possible 'remove the ventilator' day, depending on her condition. We hope to get word one way or the other. But Tegan called me - what a lovely surprise! I couldn't chat with her long so am hoping for another call later this week. The glow of that call was diminished by a phone conversation warning me of the loss of a friend from the SCA, so the evening ended on a sad note.

I found myself desiring pie but I manfully resisted and shored myself up with a large serving of fresh cherries. The season is here again, whoopie! Looks like it is late enough this year that I might even be able to buy some while I'm setting things up at the Cooper's campground. That would be a lovely thing to munch on while I'm relaxing at the end of the workday (and while everyone else is drinking... beer. Yeeech!)

I've found myself thinking about writing again. I shared a couple of stories with a friend and while I have really no true idea if they were liked, I kept thinking about things that would be fun to write. I don't know... we'll see. How weird would it be to write stories meant to only be read by the author? (I think that I'd be the only one to actually like them, you see, but I also think it'd be fun to read them years later and see if they appealed after the plots were forgotten 'as my work'.) (And no, person-who-I-sent-the-stories-to, this was not a call for commentary! I'm just noodling to myself. You just happen to be able to read what I'm noodling about.)

Man, you know what else I have to noodle about? Getting a new cook for the event I'm autocratting in January. Hmmm.... perhaps it would be easier to see if I could get a step-in autocrat and I cook for the thing. I'll have to chat with some folks. I've never done a 'high brow' feast. It would require some re-setting of my mind's workings. But that might be easier than trying to talk someone else into taking it on. I don't know. I believe I shall really worry about it after late August.
