That was fun
May. 7th, 2007 10:44 amWe drove up to Boonesboro (Maryland, I think, but maybe West Viginny) to attend a wedding this weekend. The trip was um, interesting. Actually, it was fine except that we had to travel in Arni's truck so he could smoke on the way and that meant that Shawn and I were on the little bench seat with our knees around our ears for 6 hours or so. The 'backseat' is not too uncomfortable, really, but isn't comfortable, either. We were both relieved to finally get out of that thing and stretch. And then Zack arrived from the airport and it was all worth it. And we hadn't even attended the wedding yet!
The wedding was in a campground by a lake - it was beautiful that day and we watched a large group of father/daughter picnickers have fun while model boat owners were racing their toys beyond them. The wedding was done in a "Friends style", or so I gather, with the actual wedding party seperately performing the ceremony while the guests sat in the silence in the pavilion and spoke as the spirit moved them. Amy wrote down the comments in a wedding book to give to the newly-joined afterwards. Prose, Michelle, and Ben glowed and were so very happy. I'm not sure what to call them - can't say 'the new couple' but 'the triangle' doesn't work either. Anyway, they make a lovely family. Prose's parents were gorgeous in their wedding clothes - well, Lilly was. Gordon looked dignified, which was a feat. He's usually grinning too much for that.
We partied like it was a family reunion. No, I mean it. Laughter and giggles, good natured chivvying - playing frisbee, lacrosse, hunkahunkle (or whatever that rope and two platform game is called), pinochle and Munchkin, and the guys bravely took up boffer swords and let the little boys beat them up. When the sun set, nearly everyone left the shore (day park side) and gathered around the campfire for singing and drinking and talking.
I got to watch my sons play as if they hadn't a care in the world, in the bright sun, by a serene lake, with friends they dearly loved. I didn't take hardly any pictures - didn't need them. I believe the memory will shine bright for a very long time.
