While visiting at [livejournal.com profile] mmcnealy I got a text message on my cell phone purporting to be about my credit card. It looked fishy (I don't have an account at the Credit Union it cited) but I helpfully called their number to let them know that they had the wrong customer number... as I somewhat expected, it was a Bot asking for my personal information: credit card number, SSN, Pin... yeah, right.

So I called Sprint while driving home to try to report the phone fraud. I figured as slow as rush hour traffic was it'd be pretty safe to do so. Three operator/department transfers later, I learned that they could care less about assisting a person with finding out where we were supposed to report such calls.

So after being on hold off and on for half an hour, I was home. Next to my computer. I used Google-search and found the credit union's web page http://www.portalliancefcu.com/ where prominently displayed is a "Fraud Alert" message about - - - yep, phone and text messages such as I had received.

Good to know someone is on top of it!
