Laptop Acquired
Mar. 6th, 2012 11:47 pmI paid attention to the advice from friends (especially
mariedeblois,
fosveny,
thornburyand
luciab) so skipped the Lenovo (since the one I was looking at disappeared while I was delivering a batch of lumpia for our baronial fundraiser) and went with a HP of 6GB DDR3 (I was reassured when
thornburysaid he liked that company). I opted for a model with a bigger screen (as per
mariedebloisand
fosveny), even though that makes it more bulky, since I had no intention of hooking it up to a larger (more comfortable to use) screen "at home" - my screen at home holds my computer and it'd probably faint if I asked it to run some other machine's program on its display. But I do regret turning my back on the cute (and powerful) little Acers such as they own.
So I have this (if it actually will come up now that I bought it):
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1742450&CatId=4936
It has a 6-cell battery, which I understand means that it will last 1.5x as long as the 4-cell battery models. It is refurbished, but frankly, I am finding that I am a lot more comfortable with those than with brand-new models. I like the reduced price and the reassurance that every single component has been tested before it was put on the market.
I get it on the day after tomorrow. Everyone I know, or so it seems, will be on their way to Gulf Wars, so there will be no one to hear my squee of excitement followed by the mad muttering of the computer-neophyte faced with all those pre-installed semi-full programs which will have to be wiped or activated. Except for my husband, who I should maybe buy a bottle of scotch for so he can get through the weekend as I learn how to use my new toy.
And I have got to get a-hold of Triton Herald about the process of buying an external hard-drive for the Golden Dolphin office, so I can load in all the heraldic stuff on it... I am so looking forward to being able to hand that to my successor with everything they need right there to hand.
