Trying to stitch upbeat

I'm back to finishing the holiday 'gift wrap' bags but my heart isn't really in it. One of the things that keeps me working is the mental conversation I have with myself about how the recipient is going to like the thing I'm making or at least I hope so. At first, I enjoyed making these little bags but I know that a couple of people who will be seeing them won't like them and I anticipate that one of them will be quite dismissive about them. So the shiny is off and I'm trying to get it back. I'm pretty sure I can do that - it's all a matter of perspective.
I've decided to absolutely NOT take on any new projects until my 'backlog' is empty. I find myself feeling guilty every time I start a project because of other ones I want to also be working on and, of course, they're all for people I care about and hate the idea of disappointing. So my almost-New Year's resolution is to finish what I've committed to. All by itself, that should be a stress relief.
And speaking of that, I've been helping Lauren learn how to sew early-period gowns. While she was off on holiday, I did a little fast work on the neckline of her undergown (the shoulders needed some cross-stitching and, well, it just grew...) Here's a couple of pictures of the work. I don't know if she'll like it, mind you, so you may never see it for real as I promised her I wouldn't mind at all if she takes it all out.
