Can I say I was floored?

I just called to make a doctor's appointment for myself and had to explain to the nurse why I wasn't interested in coming in today - I have to go buy an outfit to wear to a wedding tomorrow, what with me not being smart enough to look at the weather and then think about my measly two dresses in my closet. The nurse was sympathetic. In fact, overly so, as she shared with me that she needed to do the same for her daughter's wedding and she absolutely didn't want to go or even think about it. I made polite "you never can tell, things have a way of working out and surprising us" supportive statements. You know, the "don't despair, some pairings work out very well even when parents don't expect it" sort of comments but she was adamant that the marriage was doomed. Her whole family was against it. It was a horrible development.
You see, she whispered, "They are from different ethnic backgrounds. It just is tragic, tragic I tell you. She knows we're all against it."
I have no words.
Just when I think things are getting better... All I can say is that I hope the bigotry dies out as each generation ages and disappears. Obviously, her child can see with eyes of love even if she can't.
