For the Win!
Feb. 10th, 2010 12:38 amI went to about 7 (or maybe 8) stores today to do the impossible - find a pair of warm boots in my size - one week after a major snowstorm and long after the spring shoes were hitting the shelves. I'd started at Pembrook's Sear's with the wild hope that the LL Bean section would have what I needed and then just cruised down VaBeach Blvd, then to to every Big Box shoe store I knew of until I was stuck with Lynnhaven Mall as a last resort. At Macy's in Lynnhaven, I spotted a pair of ankle-high boots that I thought were really cute and I actually felt a spot of lust for them. This is unusual, as my normal sort is, fit -> close-to-period/can wear camping -> price. "I like the way they look" doesn't often get to be a factor. These were on sale, too. And none of their stock was in my size. Le sigh. Of course.
So I started walking the Mall, hitting every store that had shoes in it, no matter the targetted gender. It beat driving from Big Shoe Store to Big Shoe Store. And after about half of the mall, I passed the Easy Spirit store, glanced inside, and there, on a table in the front, was a brown pair of the shoes I'd been infatuated with at Macy's. So I picked one up and the sales clerk said, "That is the only pair of those in the store."
"Oh, well," I thought,"That's the way it's been going for me today." and I asked her what size these ones were...
Mine. My size. or I should say, 1/2 size larger but in medium width rather than my wide, so --
Mine, all mine, all mine! My new wool socks will surely take care of the extra roominess. These are cute! And mine!
I got some other shopping errands done*, filled the car up with gas (this is of note because baby, it's COLD outside!) and came home to sew. Sewing was an exercise in error, ripping out, more errors followed by more seam-ripping, then cutting errors, finding replacement chunks of fabric for the wrongfully-slashed, and finally, success. I think. The intended wearer will let me know tomorrow so I can cut out and make one more tunic for him that night.
I have (stupidly) (maybe) also decided to make banners for this weekend, just because I have the fabric and the grommets so why not? And there is still grocery shopping, packing, and more sewing to accomplish. Standard SCA-prep stuff, right?
Sleeping is over-rated.

*Drea - this means however much STC one can make with two pounds of Brie will be coming with me to Ymir. Just so you know. Guess you'd better stick near my elbow, eh?
