Mar. 15th, 2010 08:33 amSome times, the only thing a person wants to do with their computer is online-research and (maybe) TV watching... Sometimes, reading email is the last, the very last, thing a person wants to do. Today looks to be one of those days. I'm grateful that I have other things to do which bring me happiness.
In fact, I'm even grateful that the termite-contract holder is coming over to inspect the house.
(About the research - wow. It's button-counting at its best but I find it so fascinating - and I want to stop, so often, what I'm doing to go chase down a story about an intriguing person right then rather than later. Discipline is my friend in those cases. It gives me something to look forward to later on. I've slowed down on the research, I'm averaging 2 days per day now. Um, that sounds weird. I mean that I am working on the month of July and manage to compile a Saints/Feasts list for two days in about every 24 hours of the clock. When I started, I was doing about 4 days per day but that meant I was glued to my chair, my back was aching, and I think my legs were turning into tree stumps. So I made myself get away more often. Ever have an interest that does that to you?
I thought of that, how many hours I spend doing something that may, possibly, interest about oh, one person out of every 100,000 or so. Give or take a few thousand. I remembered the guy who we lost on the Armor Archive because he's spent so much time sitting that he developed a blood clot, which went to his heart (or head, that part I don't remember) and killed him - his widow came online and begged us to step away from our computers and go do something active every day. And I thought, "Should I die the same way, Arn is going to have the hardest time explaining my obsession to most everyone...'she died compiling a list of saint's days according to medieval calendars? Uh, why?' "
For some reason, that amuses me.)
