Computer question

I run Windows. It's been real slow - especially trying to open Internet pages. I generally have to refresh once or twice to get a page to come up fully. And some (like "USnews" on CNN don't load at all.)
So I was looking at my processes and noticed that I have
wauclt.exe - registered to my name
as well as
waudt.exe - registered to "System". And that one uses a LOT of CPU.
I shouldn't have both of them, should I? I ran Malwarebytes and it came up empty but I'm still wondering if there's a trojan/virus in my computer. I looked it up on Google but have to admit, I was defeated by the jargon that came up on the webpages addressing it. I can't tell if I should, or shouldn't have both, or if having both, one of them is more vulnerable to attack than the other. I have Norton Sysmantec/Anti-virus but Bossman told me as he was leaving for work this morning that it is not very effective anymore.
