So I don't have cancer**. Sort of. Mostly.

I saw the surgeon today for my pre-surgery work-up and he told me that he strongly suspects that my lightbulb is a thingy called "G.I.S.T."*, which is a form of sarcoma. Technically, those are cancerous, but - - not really. Or at least, not in cases like mine. It's the 'they are slow growing, stationary growths' sort of thing. So it is to real cancer as a cup of fruit juice is to an Italian Ice.

I can be cool with that.

Before you freak, remember that they've already done 2 biopsies and nothing came back scary. This is kinda like catching a mole just as it was considering going virulent. If I had not had that episode of gallbladder pain - well now, think about what you would have been hearing in a few years. I would have never known, the doctor would have never known, that I had a potential time bomb in my tummy. Am I lucky or what? There go more karma points...

The surgery is slated to be minimally invasive. I'll still have a hospital stay of at least 24 hours but the incision will be small and I can probably talk them into letting me go home almost as soon as I would if it were lapiscopically (which the gallbladder removal will be).

What a relief. I left there, hit up the Commissary for some foodstuffs and came home and started tackling admin things that I just hadn't been able to concentrate on previously. The bills are paid and the accounts are done. Next comes the containers of fabric and holiday stuff that I've been avoiding - because they required the ability to think and I just didn't have that. And now I do.

Yay.!

*( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastrointestinal_stromal_tumor ) Oh - and it doesn't surprise me that I have tissue growing off on under it's own direction - that's what got me the heart condition in the first place. So I should be used to the idea.

** Okay, so I might be just a wee bit a little scared. But I'm a wuss, so that's allowed. And only a little bit. The unknown is always a little scary and until the final test come back, I'm not going to relax all the way.
