I went to a fighter's practise today, which is rare for me. It was fun and so nice to see so many new faces on the rapier side. A man who is a fencing coach showed up, too, and worked with some of the newbies on footing... that was a perk.

And then there was 'that guy'. You know the one. The one who authorised just last spring, went to Pennsic, and is now an expert on rapier fighting. He ought to be a yellow scarf, by golly! How do I know that? Because he was telling the new guys that. And blowing off all the advice of the established fighters.

There always has to be one, doesn't there?

But I smile, because while he isn't aware of it, *I* know that arrogance of that sort doesn't last long in a fighter's community. He will parade his ego somewhere other than here and get a comeuppance that will stun him in its effectiveness. And all will be well.

A rapier fighter who is currently benched (knee injury) and and I chatted about lining the guy up against Belphebe and Rosamond, and any other good female fighters on the field. THAT would go a long way towards correcting his attitude, as women, so far as I can tell from my interaction with him, are really not very good or smart. Certainly not as capable as men.

Fighting. It's a learning experience. :)
