stitchwhichWe have a pet. She is a little white housecat, a Manx by breed. She is not our child, our firkin, or firbaby or any other cutesy "we want to think of ourselves as parents" type of animal descriptor.
She is a cat.
We are humans.
We are only vaguely genetically related.
She has a place in our hearts and our home but that place is in NO WAY even remotely akin to that of our own children.
I wish people would get that sometimes.
