We need to buy a new tent, a smaller one specifically for weekends & WoW (War of the Wings, which is five days long) since our 16x16' will be the kitchen/gathering tent for the longer event. But I can't decide which type I want to get. A modern 'cabin' tent would pack down small enough to fit in our KIA Soul, which means a huge saving in gas costs to and from an event, but... modern nylon. With all of the drawbacks of that. And the cost of an acceptable one is very close to the cost of a new canvas wall tent, which would NOT pack down small enough for the Soul.

So cost being equal, I am undecided. And if I am, I hesitate to start the discussion with my other half. But there is little time between now and War of the Wings, so I'd best make up my mind and start that conversation.

We love our A frame canvas tent - unsure what the name is. We bought it to merchant out of but found it to be a bit difficult for that, altho we may try and adjust it....but it is great for small events. It has two long poles with a inside ridge beam (which we may or may not bring with us). Have used it for a few small events and also for Pennsic this year - needed easy and quick set up and break down. Footprint is roughly 12 by 12. He sleeps on one side, I on the other with a long carpet in the middle for us to walk on. Bought it used for 250.00. Might check out folks selling used pavilions - post a note on Marinus/Horde boards. Not bringing it to Wow since Kendrick isn't able to come this year. He is leary about leaving the cats for that long a period until we get a cat support system up and running here :) May see if we have an old earth pimple here in the basement, if not buy a cheap mundane tent here that I can set up.

How big is the Viking wedge? I know people who camp in those for two weeks at Pennsic. It was going to be my first suggestion, assuming you can put the long poles on the roof.

When I got my Soul, I immediately got roof racks for it. They would be good for poles and such (up to about 100 pounds of load). I got the Kia racks; there are other options as well.
