Words worth quoting
Feb. 28th, 2012 04:27 pmA friend wrote this on CNN's political pages, and I liked it so much that I want to keep her response somewhere so I can re-read it occassionally:
Christians in the western world are NOT being persecuted. They are the majority. They can go to their houses of worship without impediment. They can acquire religious books- including the Bible, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, etc- freely. They can pray privately... without restriction. They can speak about their faith and witness without being arrested. They can lobby members of government and exert influence on policy and law. When yours is the cultural standard, you don't get to claim persecution. And being told that you can't force your faith on others is NOT persecution.
If you want true persecution, look to places in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, where the above practices of religion are in fact illegal, and where people are abused, go to jail, and even die for their faith. That is real persecution and is worthy of notice."
